I always believed in the power of the opening credits. Saul Bass was the first who turned them into art. The above example is the phreshest I’ve seen in a while that takes motion typography to the next level & puts the viewer immediately into the roller-coaster mind of an adventurous Director; Gaspar Noé.

The piece displays an algorithmically generated word sequence, derived from a word association database developed by the University of South Florida between 1976 and 1998. The algorithms take into account word meaning, rhyme, letter sequencing, and association.

The algorithm’s tendency towards scatological or “dark” subject matter is influenced by a variety of language and perception studies, especially Elliot McGinnies’ 1949 study “Emotionality and Perceptual Defense.”

Nokta (Dot) is an abstract film project which is an improvisation of organic pieces while considering themes like power, chance and luck.
I also wanted a perspective that can be subjectified by viewers.

Phresh to the Bone!

1923 is one of two new animation loops directed by Max Hattler, inspired by the work of French outsider artist Augustin Lesage. 1923 is based on Lesage’s painting ‘A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World’ from 1923.

The second loop, 1925, is based on Lesage’s painting ‘A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World’ from 1925. It will be available soon.

The films were created during 5 days in February 2010 with animators and CG artists at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark.

Lovely & fresh skull-shaped sculptures (or… skullptures), from jim. There’s something strangely attractive and sublime in these beautifully crafted objects. Worth a visit to see for yourselves.

This is footage shot from the first annual burning Dan festival, held in Rockville, RI.
- All shot with the Canon 1D mark IV…ISO 2000 – 6400…majority of these shots are at 3200
- lens used was Canon 35mm 1.4

There’s not much to discuss here. Just this sincerely cozy and warm feeling this video transmits, that attracted me.
Can this be phresh?

Current trend in video-making dictates to shoot “anything that moves” with a full-frame DSLR (such as Canon 5D MKII) and you’ll be rocketed into Vimeo fame. Yeah right? Nope, wrong!

However, here’s what this masterpiece of recording technology can do in a pair of capable hands. Light, composition and most of all aesthetic perception combined present this little masterpiece. Painfully PHRESH!

Santiago Mostyn. Keep this name in mind. If there was one photographer I should point out (apart from Ryan McGinley) from today’s American hyper-production in photography and style mash-ups that would be him. This set of photos {excerpt from : All Most Heaven} was taken during a trip of Mostyn down the Mississippi River on a raft plus other tavels in American mainland.

BIO: Santiago Mostyn grew up in Trinidad & Tobago and Zimbabwe. He now lives in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where his interests extend to sports, human surfaces, and post-colonial fiction.
